Sociologist of the Year
The NESA Awards Committee invites nominations for the New England Sociologist of the Year Award. This award is presented at the Association’s annual Spring Conference.
The Award recognizes exemplary contributions to the discipline either through professional scholarship or through outstanding service to the broader community of sociologists, beyond the recipient’s own academic department and institution.
Award Winners include:
- Endicott College’s Mel Manson
- Salem State College’s Yvonne Vissing
- St. Joseph College’s Helen M. Raisz
- MCLA’s Steve Green
- Bryant University’s Gregg Lee Carter
- Regis College’s Alexander Liazos
- Boston College’s Sharlene Hesse-Biber
- MCLA’s Maynard S. Seider
Who Can Make Nominations?
Nominations may be submitted by any NESA member in good standing.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Recipients of the New England Sociologist of the Year Award are members of NESA who practice sociology within the New England region. Nominees may be academics, independent scholars, or sociological practitioners. Members associated with academic institutions may be of any rank, but they would typically have established a substantial body of scholarship and/or service to the discipline.
How Do I Nominate Someone?
Nominations for the New England Sociologist of the Year Award are accepted throughout the year. The Awards Committee will review nominations received by January 15 in consideration for the award to be presented the following April. In addition to identifying the name and institutional affiliation of the nominee, your written nomination should also:
- Describe who is making the nomination and the relationship between the nominator and the nominee.
- Briefly summarize, in narrative form, the nominee’s contributions to the field of sociology, emphasizing either professional scholarship or outstanding service to the broader community of sociologists.
- Include the nominee’s current Curriculum Vita.
